Aerosol measurements were conducted at the AMMA mesosite at Banizoumbou, Niger, during the dry season special observation period in Jan 2006.
Example plots: 15-Jan-2006 – 19-Jan-2006 – 23-Jan-006 – 28-Jan-2006
and at Niamey Airport: 2-Feb-2006
Further information on AMMA can be found on the AMMA International web pages.
Airborne aerosol measurements by POLIS and a sun-photometer onboard the Cessna 207 of the Institute for Space Sciences , Free University of Berlin.
Lidar profiling of the aerosol content in the boundary layer at the bottom of Hohenpeissenberg.
Airborne validation of cloud top height measurements taken by the space-borne sensor MERIS using POLIS and CASI onboard the Cessna 207 of the Institute for Space Sciences, Free University of Berlin.
For the determination of the boundary layer altitude and its development across Munich and its suburbs aerosol profiles were measured using POLIS onbord a van. These measurements were taken on behalf of the Institut für Meteorologie und Klimaforschung Atmosphärische Umweltforschung (IMK-IFU) Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH in Garmisch-Partenkirchen under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Klaus Schäfer in the frame of the ICAROS NET field campaign.
The measuring sites were distributed from the West to the East of Munich. (Map of the ICAROS measurement sites in Munich and its suburbs during two days of ICAROS-NET field campaign.
On May 23, measurements out of the driving van were conducted.)
Some results of the measured boundary layer hight across Munich are shown in these graphs:
Fig 1: Three aerosol profiles at ICAROS sites west, north and east of Munich taken on May 16, 2003 compared to measurements at the Meteorological Institute in the center of Munich with the lidar MULIS.
Fig 2: Development of the boundary layer hight on May 16, 2003. The residual layer from the day before and the new developing layer are merging during the day.

Cloud Top Height measurements using POLIS onbord the Dornier 228 hired by NERC from DLR.
We were invited by the group of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Fischer from the Institute for Space Sciences, FU Berlin to participate in this field campaign. This was a unique opportunity to show the capability of POLIS taking measurements with high spacial and temporal resolution. The Lidar cloud top heights will be used for the validation of cloud top heights derived from CASI (Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager) and FUBISS (Free University Berlin integrated spectrographic system) measurements conducted by the Berlin group.
BBC2 is organized by CLIWA-NET, 4D-clouds, CESAR, and others as was the first BBC field camapign in November 2001.
Details about the BBC 2 campaign can be found at the BBC 2 Webpages from KNMI and on the BBC 2 pages from Univ. Bonn
Cloud Top Height measurements using POLIS onbord the Cessna 207 owned by the group of Prof. Dr. Jürgen Fischer from the Institute for Space Sciences of the Free University of Berlin. The Lidar cloud top heights allow the validation of cloud top heights derived from MERIS sensor onboard Envisat.
Validation of aerosol measurements taken by the CHRIS (Compact High Resolution Imaging Spectrometer) instrument onbord the PROBA (Project for On-Board Autonomy) satellite. Gilching is a core testsite of the CHRIS/PROBA mission situated in upper Bavaria southwest of Munich.
Details about this validation campaign can be found at the CHRIS/PROBA Webpages.
