The PhD project is part of the project ICEPolCKa as part of the DFG Priority Programme 2115 „Fusion of Radar Polarimetry and Numerical Atmospheric Modelling Towards an Improved Understanding of Cloud and Precipitation Processes“ (PROM, see https://www2.meteo.uni-bonn.de/spp2115 for more information).
Within ICEPolCKa ("Investigation of the initiation of Convection and the Evolution of precipitation using simulations and POLarimetric radar observations at C- and Ka-band"), a joint project of LMU Munich and nearby DLR Oberpfaffenhofen, the topic is closely linked to a second PhD position at DLR “Investigating the role of ice for the evolution of precipitation using multi-wavelength radar measurements”.
