Two PhD positions (3 years) on precipitation formation in radar data and model and on renewable energy generation

29.08.2018

Position 1: Life-cycle of clouds and precipitation in radar observations and numerical models

The PhD project is part of the project ICEPolCKa as part of the DFG Priority Programme 2115 „Fusion of Radar Polarimetry and Numerical Atmospheric Modelling Towards an Improved Understanding of Cloud and Precipitation Processes“

Within ICEPolCKa ("Investigation of the initiation of Convection and the Evolution of precipitation using simulations and POLarimetric radar observations at C- and Ka-band"), a joint project of LMU Munich and nearby DLR Oberpfaffenhofen, the topic is closely linked to a second PhD position at DLR “Investigating the role of ice for the evolution of precipitation using multi-wavelength radar measurements”.

Position 2: Improved short range irradiance forecasts for an automated control of a combined biogas-PV power plant

The second PhD project is part of the project NETFLEX together with TH Ingolstadt Institut for new Energy Systems. Details in the PDF. It is funded by the national Bundesministerium für Ernährung und Landwirtschaft.
