PhD position (3 years) DOAS Tomography

26.11.2021

Within a new research project, we are looking for a PhD Student to develop an inversion algorithm to process tomographic DOAS (differential optical absorption spectroscopy) measurement data. The position can be filled immediately, and is available for up to three years (75% TV-L E13).
The goal of this project is to develop a measurement system that consists of several scanning DOAS spectrometers in order to capture the three-dimensional distribution of NO2 (nitrogen dioxide). Each DOAS instrument consists of a movable telescope that can be aimed at different retro reflectors so that an area of several hundred meters in diameter can be sampled. As a PhD student on this project, your duties will be to program the DOAS retrieval, the scanning sequence and the tomographic inversion, as well as to conduct test measurements.
The requirement for applicants is a master degree in Meteorology, Physics, Climate Science, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
As a successful candidate, you should be proficient in spoken and written English and enjoy working in a collaborative environment. Ideally, you have a strong background and a keen interest in atmospheric physics, with good programming skills. Preferably, you already have some experience with DOAS measurements or developing inversion algorithms.
LMU Munich is an equal opportunity employer and encourages applications from female candidates. Furthermore, disabled candidates with essentially equal qualifications will be given preference.

Please send your application to Prof. Dr. Mark Wenig ( mark.wenig@lmu.de ).
