POLIS 1064 nm - first light for our portable lidar upgrade

POLIS1064 first light: The Portable Lidar System POLIS of LMU has been upgraded with a module for lidar measurements at 1064 nm. POLIS1064 was delivered in January 2025 saw its first light in April 2025 with the completion of a Site Acceptance Test upon delivery from the Raymetrics SA manufacturing company. The system features novel infrared detectors designed by Licel GmbH for minimal analog signal distortions. POLIS is the only portable reference lidar system of ACTRIS with scanning capabilities, allowing it to imitate the pointing of any other aerosol lidar. Older versions of the system have been used since 2004 for the evaluation of the lidar systems of the European Aerosol Research Lidar Network (EARLINET). In modern times this task became part of the operations of the ACTRIS Central Facility located in MIM.
